Paya Serai – PJ Hilton
It was a lovely Sunday in the month of August. I went out with my aunt to have lunch using the food voucher at PJ Hilton. We planned to go to the Chinese restaurant but it was full house because of the dim sum buffet. So, we went to their coffee house, Paya Serai, for our lunch. We tried to order our food with the worth of the voucher. And, here is what we ate on that day.
Nasi Goreng Kampung
It took quite long to cook and prepare to serve us the dishes. I would say, this Nasi Goreng Kampung is pretty big portion. With a piece of fried chicken, two big prawns, two sticks of satay and a fried egg on top of the fried rice, it was very filling. I quite like their fried rice, it is a little spicy, a truly Kampung style.
I could not remember this Spaghetti’s name. It was pretty long name. It was very generous with ingredients because it has more ingredients than the spaghetti itself. Superb taste with the creamy tomato sauce. Thumb up for this!
We order a Seafood Chowder as well for our starter but it only came to us after all our main meal was served. The soup was very creamy and you can find quite amount of seafood inside the soup. It tasted just right and was not salty.
Overall dining experience here is great as the portion is worth for its price. The food is not oily or salty. The overall ambiance is great and services are fast and good except for serving our meals. According to the waitress, the cook has to prepare those ingredients beforehand as it was not all ready on demand.
Before we left the restaurant, we bought a tiny tiramisu from the counter.

A&W – American Fast Food Chain
I was invited to join for lunch at A&W on one of the weekend. It has been very long time I did not eat A&W since after the closure of the shop at KLCC’s branch. We went to the Taman Jaya’s branch which is located not far from the Taman Jaya LRT station.
We used the voucher bought from the Internet to buy the waffle set with a Root Beer. Sadly, the drink did not come with ice-cream float, if not, it would be the perfect match.
We have to wait almost 20 minutes for our waffle to be ready. I am not sure if there were a lot of people ordering the waffle or it was just slow service at the waffle counter. So, while waiting, we drank our Root Beer. Oh! Childhood memories came back all of sudden 🙂
Our long-waited waffle finally served on our table. It was nicely placed for us to take this picture, front and back design. They gave us butter and honey and we quickly poured on it and started eating. Slight disappointment on the quality of the waffle. We felt the waffle should be cooked for a little longer as it was a bit soft.

Ajisen Ramen at AMK Hub
Another Japanese food discovery at AMK Hub on my second trip down to Singapore office in June 2013. It was really wonderful to have dinner with my cousin, Jen Lam. She chose the Seafood Ramen with Fried Sotong. It was a dinner set meal that came with a drink too. Here, they do not have free flow tea as what we can enjoy in Japan 🙂
Sorry for the bad picture. It did not show much ingredients inside the ramen besides the boiled egg and bean sprouts. However, their soup base tasted good.
This Fried Sotong is another good choice. The fried squids were crispy and well tasted.
Then, my dinner was Scallops Ramen with octopus. It gave pretty generous amount of medium sized scallops with half of the boiled egg and bean sprouts. The octopus is the normal type of octopus that we can find in most sushi restaurant.
My cousin told me to try to put some chilli’s flakes into the soup to make it even nicer and I did. It did bring out a stronger taste.
Besides our main dinner sets, we ordered an additional side dish which was the Gyoza. It is a normal type of Gyoza. It was a very filling and great dinner on that night.

West 57th St Cafe (Zang Toi Cafe)
I was invited by a friend to go to this cafe for a tea break. My friend said the cafe has a nice cake that I must give a try. Oh… really? Ok, let’s go!
When we reached the cafe, there was few people in the cafe, we chose a quiet corner place to sit down and enjoyed our tea break. We ordered their tea time offers in which we chose our preferred tea and it came with a peice of Rock Bun and Banana chocolate cake. Yes, my friend wanted to introduce me to this banana chocolate cake.
Banana Chocolate Cake
It was rich with chocolate and sandwiched with raw banana. Well, it was so rich and each bite was full with the chocolate and banana taste. So, it is good to slowly eat and spare your time there.
And, what is Rock Bun? We were quite curious to find out and the tea time offered this as well. Here you go, this is how Rock Bun looks like :
It does look like a scone to me and when we cut it into half, this is how it looks like inside:
The rock bun’s taste a little dry for me with some raisins inside and marmalade. The great day completed with our preferred tea. I chose Mint tea while my friend chose Peach tea. It was a great tea break together. Thank you.

Restoran Ngau Kee – Famous Beef Noodle
A friend of mine brought me to try this beef noodle at non air conditional place instead when I said, let’s go to Lot 10 Hutong for beef noodle at Lot 10 Bukit Bintang. It needed some walking from Bukit Bintang main road and it located adjacent to Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang. Just remember their signature board when you look for their stall.
The uncle who operates this stall,
As usual, I just go for beef ball noodle and I prefer to order the dry noodle, plus the weather outside here is pretty warm, it is a good choice too. I ordered a mixed type of noodle, meehoon and keow teow.
Beef Balls Noodle
The noodle came with a bowl of six beef balls with soup and a bowl of noodle of my choice with minced meat on top of it. The noodle portion was generous enough. Mix well the noodle with minced meat before start eating. The soup based was pretty okay, not oily and not using the white pepper in the soup.
As my friend preferred a mixed ingredients, so here is the picture of the mixed ingredients:
Do not forget to eat with its special chilli sauce. Oh yummy! Well, I am not a beef noodle fan but this noodle is just right taste for me. I do not know how famous is this stall but there was no crowd at all when I was at this stall on Sunday afternoon.
