Aeon Big Food Stall

The Aeon Big Food Stall which is located at Aeon Big, Mid Valley is packed with lunch crowd. I went there during my lunch time together with other two colleagues. I wanted to try out the Mee Goreng Mamak, unfortunately the queue was too long and I could not decide what to eat next.

My colleague suggested me to try their Yong Tau Foo. He said it was quite good for his taste bud. So, I went over to the Yong Tau Foo’s stall and there was no one standing there. I gave a shot and looked at their menu and I saw their offer, three pieces of Yong Tau Foo with noodle costs RM5.90 with no tax. It was pretty good offer.

Yong Tau Foo

I went on to pick a eggplant (brinjal), bitter guard and fish cake. I chose curry with rice vermicelli (meehoon) and I garnished my noodle with spring onion on top.

The noodle portion is not big, just alright only. The bitter guard was a bit too hard, maybe it needs to cook longer. The curry soup was pretty good and comparable with the curry soup from the Pulau Ketam Yong Tau Foo stall which is located at lower ground The Gardens Mall. My friend told me to try the clear soup too. So, I did. I found that their clear soup was very much MSG-ed taste. It is not my choice if I were to choose between curry and clear soup.

Besides the Mamak Store and Yong Tau Foo, the next popular store is the Western Food store named, Wild Basil.

Location :  AT1, Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Ambience : Moderate. It is located within the supermarket where the environment is simple with just tables and chairs.
Overall : 3/5
For less than RM10.00 to get a decent lunch, this Yong Tau Foo is worth to give a try.

My Toast

The third shop that I am going to write is My Toast, which is also located at lower ground of The Garden Malls, Mid Valley. I went to this shop for lunch with two other colleagues as we wanted to get light meals. They offer set lunch on weekdays.

One of the set lunch offers that caught was the Indomee Goreng with Egg and Sausage. I know it is very simple food that everyone of us can prepare it at home without going to this place to have it.

And, this was how the meal looked like when it was served. A plate of Indomee goreng with a fried egg on top of the noodle and an overly-cooked sausage, as simple as that. The portion looked little and do not have any garnish such as fried onions which could bring out good smell of fried noodle. Another disappointment was the noodle cooked too soggy. It should be springy!
My Toast
It came with a glass of Coke. Lucky, this Coke saved my lunch.

Seeing it again, it does not really worth RM10.00. Yes, correct, this set meal costs RM7.90 and I think it is still over-priced. How much does a pack of 5 Indomee costs? How much does a pack of 10 eggs costs? How much does a pack of sausage costs? And, how much a glass of Coke costs?

For their services, I think they need to improve. We have been waited for our Indomee to be served more than 20 minutes. It should be something that can be done in 10 minutes and we were seated next to the cashier counter, how could you missed our orders?

Location : LG-K09, Lower Ground Floor, The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Ambience : Noisy and quite crowded during lunch time. It is located near The Gardens’ escalator where human traffic detected.
Overall : 1/5. The one point was giving to this set meal for the owner’s idea to come out this set lunch in their menu.

The second restaurant that I would like to write is Ori-Udon. It is a pretty new shop locates at Lower Ground, The Gardens, Mid Valley. I went there with my brother for dinner, one of the less people restaurant at 7+PM. So, do not expect it is a great one as compared to Sushi Zen next door.

At first glance, this shop is operated mostly by the foreigners and I did not see any “sifu” in the open concept kitchen. It just sells seven different selections of the Japanese Udon and some simple side dishes. Below is the part of the menu.

I ordered the Niku Udon Chicken (Cold). What I can say about it? The portion looked quite generous. The taste was just average, just enough to fill up my stomach.

Most of the udon selection comes with either chicken or beef and you can opt for cold noodle too.

Meanwhile, my brother ordered the House Special with Egg (Hot). A plain udon noodle with some vegetable and egg. It was more plain and simple than mine. I was quite surprised that this bowl of noodle called House Special.

It is not recommended to order this mochi if you are looking for desserts.

Location : LGK-01, Lower Ground, The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Ambience : No crowd during my visit and quiet.
Overall : 1/5. I am giving it 1 point for its price which below RM10.00 and no crowd during peak hours.

The Zun Express

For this month of February, I would like to introduce some of the restaurants that you can find in Mid Valley that offer food that cost between RM10.00 to RM15.00, including taxes and service charges.

First restaurant that I would like to introduce is The Zun Express, which is located next to Eu Yan Sang at Lower Ground of The Gardens Mall. If you have the Eu Yan Sang’s member card, you can entitle to get 10% discounts, subjects to terms and conditions.

I went to this restaurant the day after I came back to work from my sick leave. I wanted to have something hot and good for health. Then, I was introduced to the Peanuts & lotus tail-bone soup. It was said to improve spleen systems and strengthens lower back. Also, I ordered a bowl of rice to eat with the soup.
