Crystal Jade Kitchen

Crystal Jade Kitchen

Wanton Noodle
It was almost the same taste as the Hong Kong ones but the noodle was not springy enough. The four wantons were big and the soup was plain.

Roasted Duck
My colleague did order the half of the roasted duck for their porridge and unfortunately, I neither try nor ask if the duck was nice. By looking at the duck, it did give me an impression its skin was crispy and the meat was juicy.

Location: Tampines Mall #B1-1, Singapore.
Ambience: Cosy restaurant with nice Chinese decorations. It is suitable to have lunch or dinner for a big group of people and it is easy to look for place during peak hours (there was no crowd when we went into this restaurant).
Rating: 3/5. Up to standard and generous wantons for my noodle. The feedback from the rest of the colleagues were good.

Toast Box

Toast Box

Just wanted to find a place to have a drink after the late lunch at Suntec City’s Food Junction and we bumped into the Toast Box. It was tea time and they were offering the tea break set which came with a Ham and Cheese Toast with a hot drink of your choice. I chose to have Hot Tea.
Toast Box
I quite missed the days when my aunt prepared the ham and cheese sandwich for my breakfast. The toast was great and the hot tea was satisfying. Maybe, you would like to request for less sweet but I am alright with the level of sweetness as I quite needed it.

Location: 1 Raffles Boulevard, Suntec City SICEC, #B1-126/127 (Tower 5)
Ambience: Noisy and crowded.
Rating: 2/5. Satisfied with the toast and drink. However, the area was too noisy to spend more time sitting down.

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert

I went to this restaurant located at AMK Hub after shopping for my trip. It was a quick dinner for me as it was quite late. It is a dessert house, however, it does offer some Hong Kong style food as well.

Wanton Noodle
One of the good selections in this restaurant. The noodle texture was springy and the wantons were in average sizes. The broth was not very oily but it was a bit tasteless.

I added on with some desserts with looked pretty interesting for me.

Almond with Yam Cake
The almond taste was pretty strong and I think it is pretty hard to find a place selling it. And, it came with the yam cake. The yam cake was soft and went well with fried onions. The taste, of course would not be as good as home made yam cake.

Alternatively, you can choose Black Sesame with Yam Cake. The black sesame was thick and aromatic.

Simple yet satisfying dinner.

Location: AMK Hub, 53 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, #B1-51B, Singapore.
Opening Hours: 11.00am to 10.30pm daily.
Ambience: Quiet and spacious. The restaurant is not facing the main crowd, giving it some private space.
Rating: 3/5. Nice food selection available in the menu. Reasonable price and offers.

GoGung, Myeong-Dong, Seoul. (고궁 – 명동점)

My last dining experience with the Korean restaurant named GoGung was in Kuala Lumpur, Mid Valley Shopping Centre on my last day working there. I was with my colleague for a lunch, not a farewell lunch.

When I was in Seoul for business trip with another 4 colleagues, we bumped into GoGung in Myeongdong 8ga-gil. So, we decided to have our dinner here before heading back to hotel.

The ambience of the restaurant looks cosy and and quiet. We went up to the second floor and entered the restaurant, there were a few group of people eating there while being entertained by the classical instrument’s performers.
After went through the menu, we decided to order one set and have add-ons.
They offered five different side dishes. I liked the salads very much. The salads’ sauce was very appetizing. My colleague said, the vegetable was beautifully garnished and he did not want to eat it.

Here are all the food that we ordered.
Jap Chae (잡채)
It is a stir-fried Korean glass noodle. It is very flavourful and nutritious dish that can be served as a main meal, snack or appetizer. It is worth to order this dish if you do not want to order its set meal.

Pajeon (파전)
Jeon means Korean Pancake. There are various type of Korean pancake we can see in Korean menu and it is an appetizer too. Pajeon mean green onions pancake, which we always see in Korean restaurant.

Bibimbap (비빔밥)
We ordered two different types of pot for bibimbap, but basically, they are same ingredients.
It was really a lot of food that we have ordered. Our table was full with food when all of it was served. 잘 먹겠습니다 .

Address: 27, Myeongdong 8ga-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul, Korea.
Ambience: Cosy, entertaining and good place for group gathering and enjoy great food.
Rating: 3/5. The food portion and ambience were great especially they have a performer performed some traditional songs.

Sakae Sushi

The second back-dated entry that I would like to write is Sakae Sushi. Someone commented to me this restaurant was expensive and not worth to try and asked me to avoid it. So, I gave a try on this restaurant to prove the statement.

Sakae Sushi Century Square :
I went for dinner with my colleague. We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken and Salmon ala carte and shared it eventually. I think the waiter made a mistake to our orders. By looking at the portion of both meats, I do feel that is pretty little even if we did not share it. So, if the waiter did not make mistake on our orders, I would have just gotten two tiny sliced Teriyaki Salmon. I ordered the fried garlic rice to try and it turned out to be okay to me.
sakae sushi
We shared both of our food and thoughts on that night. The overall of the food is closed to perfection. However, it was just too small portion.

Location: Century Square, #B1-02/03, 2 Tampines Central 5, Singapore.
Ambience: Quiet, no crowd.
Rating: 2/5. There are plenty rooms for improvements for this restaurant. It needs to improve to attract more crowds.

Penang Culture

My apologies. I have been caught up with a lot of works lately and I was not able to write an entry for the past two weeks. So, today I made a point to point up at least one entry. Sadly, to mention also, it is one of my back-dated entries. Hope, you all do not mind it.

Shortly after I came back from my Melbourne trip, I needed to work late in the office to catch up with the backlog. I asked them for dinner together as it was quite late when I finished my work and I am lazy to travel back home and cook.

Pink Guava
penang culture
It was a complimentary drink from this restaurant if you spent a minimum of SGD40.00 per transaction using DBS credit card. And, they gave it to me.

Side Dish: Tofu
penang culture
It was ordered by my colleague and I saw the tofu, looked pretty crispy and it would be great to go with the special sauce.

Chicken in Thai Style with Rice
penang culture
This is the main dish of my colleague. Well, it was pretty tempting to eat it. The chicken looked very crispy and the Thai sauce with the side garnishes such as sliced onions, cucumbers made the entire dish so appetite.

Fried Kway Teow
penang culture
And, I ordered the Fried Kway Teow. One of the most famous local food in Penang if you go to Penang hawker stalls. It tasted great and satisfied. It has been a while since the last time I tried the Fried Kway Teow in Penang and this satisfied my taste bud. The portion of the noodle and ingredients could be improved if possible.

Dessert : Pulut HItam
Penang culture
It was my dessert. However, I was pretty full to finish it because of the extra drink that my colleague gave to me. It was a nice pulut hitam, thick and sweetness level was just right for my taste bud.

Location: 2 Tampines Central 5 #04-11/12 Singapore.
Ambience: Quite spacious. Able to accommodate a big crowd. Level of noise is moderate. The setting of the restaurant is simple and basic.
Rating: 3/5. Good food offered and tasted almost the same taste that you can find in Penang. Good environment. However, if would be better if the services could be improved.
