Yew Chuan Claypot Rice

Yew Chuan Claypot Rice At Beach Road Hawker Centre.
After a jogging session with some of my colleagues, we decided to stop by at the newly reopened food court, the Golden Mile Food Court at Beach Road for our dinner. We went around the food court and we settled down at this stall, Yew Chuan claypot rice.

I let my colleague to order the claypot while the rest of us look for table and ordered drink. The waiting time for the claypot rice to be ready seem quite long even though I do not see many customers around.

Well, good food is worth to wait. We conquered the whole claypot rice which comes with generous amount of ingredients such as chicken meat, some salted fish, Chinese sausages, vegetable and I couldn’t recall the name of the black colored sausage. I added some black sauce, mixed them around and let the ingredients’ essence immersed into the rice before start eating them.

Mon Bijou

Mon Bijou, Orchard, Singapore.
It is located at Claymore Connect, the French cafe serves all day breakfast, lunch and desserts. I was tasked to check out what to ate for lunch when both princesses just woke up from their beauty sleep. A quick search from the Internet, sethlui.com recommends this French cafe as it has something great to try. Since, we are nearby, we just walk over and we are greeted with their friendly waiter.

I start with translating the name Mon Bijou to English, it means My Jewel. I quite agreed with it, this place is a hidden gem.

The chef recommendations list on the menu includes this MB Crabby Patty burger serves with mango salsa and fries. Food presentation is good, taste for the crab patty is good too. My friend likes the mango salsa.

The second chef recommendation is the Truffle Scrambled Egg with toasts, hash brown and sausages. I wanted to smell the truffle after seeing a TV programme sometime ago. Just curious how it is actually smell when we cook it with our food. I quite like the two-tone toast (black and white toast), I cannot be sure what is the favour of the black colour, and online search, some says it is squid ink. And, then the hash brown used to be handmade, however, the hash brown that I got that day was those frozen ones.

The third chef recommendation under the same menu is the Spaghetti Carbonara which my friend ordered. She says it is really nice 🙂  Overall, the food here is delicious and worth to try. All food served after waiting for some 15 to 20 minutes, I believe they prepare the food with ‘heart’.

For drinks, we choose three different drink, the healthy green juice consists of the green apple, celery and cucumber, the mango smoothie and mocha.

Diandin Leluk Thai Restaurant

Diandin Leluk Thai Restaurant, Golden Mile Complex, Singapore.
Sometimes ago, I went to search for restaurants that serve nice, authentic and reasonable price for Thai food in Golden Mile Complex after my friends suggested to meet up there. I short-listed the Nong Khai Beer House and Diandin Leluk Thai Restaurant and suggested my friends to look for a table in either one of these restaurants. They selected Nong Khai instead. During my next visit to the Golden Mile Complex, I decided to try Diandin Leluk to check out their food with my cousin.

Mango Salad is one of the first dishes that we ordered. It is appetizing because of the sourness from the mango salad sauce and the green mango itself. They put a bit red chili so it is a bit spicy. If not mistaken Nong Khai’s waiter asked my friend before how spicy we wanted our mango salad last time 🙂

The green milk tea taste is just right, not too sweet and not too strong milk tea. As the ice melt, the drink maintains it tastes. Meanwhile, my cousin told me her lemongrass drink is boiled mild lemongrass water and added syrup. 😦

Next, the clear tom yam soup with seafood is served. It looks pretty good, right? It is generous with ingredients such as fish, squids, prawns and vegetables such as mushroom, tomato, red onions and lemongrass. My first sip of the tom yam soup is a little disappointed because it tastes salty. Where is the hot and sour favours?

The Pad Thai and Hot Basil Chicken Rice are served. The presentation of both food is not really appealing especially my hot basil chicken rice with a fried egg and my photo is not well taken and I am not able to share it here. The taste for both the Pad Thai and the rice are just normal and plenty of improvement is needed because I tried the hot basil chicken rice served by 7-11 in Pattaya and it tasted better than this one.

Two Bakers

Two Bakers, Lavender, Singapore.
Again, I revisited this cafe after the last Christmas visit with two other friends. Wow, I cannot imagine it has been so long since my last visit. During my second visit, I went with another friend and we targeted to have more for dessert and shared one main course. Okay, these are what we tried during the visit:-

Bagel with bacon, egg, hash brown and salad with special sauce. And, I forgot the name of this sandwich. ^^ Anyway, our main desserts are these two beauties in which both of us caught in first sight.

The Matcha Swiss Roll contains strong green tea taste which I feel slightly overdo. First few bites are great but when the green tea taste covers all over my mouth, I need to find other things to balance out.

Here is the next dessert we ordered:-

The pear almond pie. The pie isn’t sweet, taste just right and nicely presented.

Broccoli, Egg & Cherry Tomatoes

The broccoli, hard-boiled egg and cherry tomatoes are the good friends when we want to prepare some vegetables for our appetizer.

Although egg is meat, not vegetable, it is a high quality protein. More than half the protein of an egg is found in the egg white along with vitamin B2 and lower amounts of fat and cholesterol than the yolk. The whites are rich sources of selenium, vitamin D, B6, B12 and minerals such as zinc, iron and copper, according to the website, bbcgoodfood.com.

Meanwhile, broccoli is a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin B6, vitamin E, vitamin B1, vitamin A, potassium and copper. Broccoli is also a good source of magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, zinc, calcium, iron, niacin and selenium accordfing to website, whfoods.com. And, cherry tomatoes are nutritious, contains proteins, vitamin C and fiber.

Putting them together as our appetizer is one of the good choice to eat healthy. Share with me if you have other combinations of healthy vegetable appetizer.

Chicken Breast with Salad

I stayed overnight at my cousin’s house and I watched a lot of the Asian Food Channel programmes which made me feel trying to make a lot of great food. While having so much ideas on my head, I tried my hand to marinate the chicken breast with some mixed herbs, chopped garlic and salt and left it marinated overnight.

The output after I pan grilled it the next morning was the white-brownish cooked chicken breast meat with great aroma from the mixed herbs and garlic. Next, I made some lettuces with red cherry tomatoes in a container and placed the sliced chicken breast meat on top of it.

I think it should be alright to eat without sauces.

Maccha House

Maccha House, Orchard Central, Singapore.

Guess what kind of occasion that brings us to this restaurant? I guess it is normal if you are one of those people who frequent to Hai Di Lao, steamboat restaurant in the city. The waiting time for a table at the steamboat restaurant is insanely long. Each reservation is expected to wait for a minimum of two hours for a table. And, what do you do when you are hungry and table is unavailable? Either sit and wait, change location and if not, look for tidbit or dessert.

Yes, correct, we went to this restaurant for dessert before our dinner. It is a wrong sequence of event but we have nothing to do while waiting. This is my first time visit to this restaurant and we made a good choice for our dessert selection.

The Matcha Tiramisu serves in a cute wooden box with a small cup of green tea. It is really nice food presentation. How about the taste? My first bite tells the taste is not too sweet, as I have been cutting down sugar intake for past years. The matcha taste is the best part, strong and did not overly.

Dorayaki Set. They are doing a promotion for the dorayaki during our visit and we ordered it with a choice of ice-cream besides the default favour, green tea and we chose the vanilla ice-cream. It comes with azuki beans, green tea syrup and paste,  small glutinous rice and some creams.

I tried to put as many toppings on top of my dorayaki which comes in two favours, the original and green tea. It is fluffy and really good to eat it while it is warm.
