Scala Programming – Window Setup

It has been a year since after I left the Coursera – Functional Programming Principles in Scala course unattended. I joined the free course when I was told that my next projects would be all in Scala and Coursera offered the introduction course. I followed the first few tracks and stopped after I setup and wrote my first Scala code in Linux environment. From a Window based user to Linux, I admitted I struggled along the way until one day, I realized I did not really use my Window’s laptop as often as I used to.

Recently, I went through the same course again and this time, I would like to share the experience of setting up the Window machine. It is quite straight forward for Window’s users and it is easy.

Download the msi installer from the website and install it accordingly. After it completes, open the command prompt from Window machine and type,

sbt about

It ran through plenty of new directories and new files and then I received a problems summary, unresolved dependencies org.fusesource.jansi#jansi;1.11: not found and the last message received before the process ended was,

unresolved dependency: org.fusesource.jansi#jansi;1.11: not found
Error during sbt execution: Error retrieving required libraries
(see C:\Users\Li Yen\.sbt\boot\update.log for complete log)
Error: Could not retrieve jansi 1.11

I tried to re-run the sbt about from the command prompt again. This time, it was downloading files and updates. The process ended with the following information,

[info] Updated file C:\Users\Li Yen\project\ set sbt.version to 1.1.4
[info] Loading project definition from C:\Users\Li Yen\project
[info] Updating ProjectRef(uri("file:/C:/Users/Li%20Yen/project/"), "li-yen-build")...
[info] Done updating.
[info] Set current project to li-yen (in build file:/C:/Users/Li%20Yen/)
[info] This is sbt 1.1.4
[info] The current project is ProjectRef(uri("file:/C:/Users/Li%20Yen/"), "li-yen") 0.1.0-SNAPSHOT
[info] The current project is built against Scala 2.12.4
[info] Available Plugins: sbt.plugins.IvyPlugin, sbt.plugins.JvmPlugin, sbt.plugins.CorePlugin, sbt.plugins.JUnitXmlReportPlugin, sbt.plugins.Giter8TemplatePlugin
[info] sbt, sbt plugins, and build definitions are using Scala 2.12.4

Does anyone encounter the same unresolved dependencies message and unable to retrieve jansi? Does it have any relations to Internet connection? I wish to know whether it will affect anything in the future.

Caffe Bene

Caffe Bene, Sunway Velocity, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A girl friend of mine reminded me to look for another friend to get the facial cream she bought from China. I asked my friend before this on how to manage the scars and pimples on my face.

She told me this worked pretty well on her face and she bought a new one during the one for one promotion. So nice of her! And, I am going to try it pretty soon.

Alright, back to my blogs’ updates.

As you can see the background of the picture above, yes, I took the picture while writing this post. My visit to Caffe Bene in Malaysia is countable, however, I think this maybe my first or second time. I looked at the menu and I could not find some special from the menu to try.

You know, whenever, I do not want to pick a new thing to try, I will always go for Latte. However, my friend ordered Iced Coffee Latte, so I have to order something different than his. I ordered the hot Mocha and he added a sliced of Peanut Buttter cake to share with. The cake is rich but not too sweet, yes, it is still sweet, it goes well with my cup of Mocha. Everything is well balanced, however, I would love to be given more options to reduce the sugar level.

The ambiance of the cafe is pretty good especially we sit at one corner and it gives us a lot of privacy and space to talk.

It has been quite long since we last met and I always wanted to share with him about my stories with my client who liked sometimes ago. I have been sharing it with some girl friends and their feedback almost the same and I wanted to see from the guy’s point of views toward this matter.

Besides sharing our updates with each other, we planned to visit our girl friend in Suzhou this year end. I am planning to go for a long trip after my project is completing.

McDonald’s Mix and Match

McDonald’s in Malaysia is having the mix and match for McBreakfast selection. I went to the McDonald’s located at Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with my aunt last week, when I went back to KL for a short break.

The mix and match selection allows us to buy two items with a fixed price which I think it is quite worth especially we do not want to eat the hash-browns. We ordered the two sets of the Sausage McMuffin with Egg with coffee. Instead of the usual McDonald’s paper cup, this visit they used the McCafe’s paper cup.

Although there is some changes, the food quality remains the same and I love the coffee’s smell. I love spending the quality time together with my aunt especially I shared with her my work and my daily life in Singapore. She loves to hear all this stories from me.

Kitchen is on simple mode

22nd April, Singapore.

It has been a while since my last entry. Today, I have some feeling to write some updates here while spending my relaxing weekends with food and tv series. This is the picture of yesterday’s breakfast, a walnut and cheese bread from Hogan. A bakery brand which I found in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Hogan Bakery is originated from Taiwan. A search from the Internet, the bakery is one of the reward winning bakeries in Taipei.

I bought the walnut bread from a standalone stall in front of the ANSA Hotel which is located next to the Lot 10 Shopping Centre. The bread is generous with ingredients, the walnuts is full of nutritional and it goes well with the cheese bites.

My breakfast completed with a small cup of orange juice.

Mrs. Pho

Address: 221 Rangoon Road, Singapore 218459.
This is the second branch of Mrs. Pho, the Vietnamese cuisine restaurant. It is called Mrs. Pho House. With the nice decorated interior of the restaurant, it tends to go on slightly above medium class price range and choices of food. Here, the menu is different, however, the basic ones which you can find at the Beach Road are there. This branch serves more dishes which are good for those who want to try more Vietnamese food with a big group of people.

We went to the Rangoon’s branch for the Feb 5 free pho’s offer. The portion of the pho, the sliced meat and vegetable and the food quality remained same even it was free. It has no different between the two branches.

The soup broth is delicious, sweet and not oily. Again, if you like adding the lime juice, it gives extra kick. I like their original broth.

We specially ordered it to try, just nice for four of us, it is the Vietnamese mini pancakes with prawns. It is quite uniquely tasted for me.

Additionally, we order the Vietnamese crepe to try. It is simple delicious and the portion is very generous. It consists of meat, either chicken or pork which is well marinated, wrapped with Vietnamese style crepe, made mostly of eggs. Besides meat, they put plenty of beansprouts and onions. Dip it with the sauce, it is nice and well tasted.
