Simple Wrapps

Simple Wrapps, 2 Tampines Central 5 #B1-11 Singapore 529509.

With the points from the 365 Health App, I converted the points into vouchers of Simple Wrapps which I can get a salad or a wrap of Chef selection. I ordered the Journey to Norway from the menu. Based on the website, the ingredients for the salad are romaine lettuce and Mesclun leaves, smoked salmon, beetroot, capsicum, cherry tomatoes and broccoli. The vegetable is fresh and I did not put any dressings. It is an healthy choice for a day.

Old Town White Coffee

Address: #01-19/20, Aperia Mall, 12 Kallang Ave, Singapore 339511.

With the 1-for-1 promotion offer we saw from the Fave, we bought the vouchers and 4 of us went for the Old Town restaurant located at the Aperia Mall, just opposite of the Lavender MRT, to have our lunch. Seriously, I did not know what is great about this franchise restaurant, as the food is expensive and tasted just as normal as any food courts out there, yet it charged people so much.

I ordered the Curry Pan Mian which came with generous amount of noodle, some anchovies, bean sprouts, fried beancurd, sliced barbecue chicken and some fish cakes on top of the noodle. The curry broth was good. The ingredients were something unusual than the normal curry noodle, however, it looked quite close to the ingredients offered in Malaysia’s Old Town’s branches too.

The promotion allowed us to order some of their signature dishes such as Assam Laksa and Nasi Lemak from their ala-carte menu.

Dinner at Pasar Malam

Since there is a pasar malam at Tampines Central and I invited my friend to come over after her working hour to join me for dinner and a drink to talk about our lives. I suggested her to have dinner at few restaurants in Tampines Mall and Tampines One. And, in the end, we chose to pick some local food from the pasar malam.

Ramly Burger
It has been umpteen years I did not eat Ramly burger. It is not an healthy food. I do not even remember when was the last time I tried the Ramly burger when I was a student in my home town, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

There are two stalls, one at each end, selling the Ramly burger and we simply chose one which ended up queuing for more than 30 minutes to get 3 burgers. The cook prepared the burgers in batches, each batch his team and himself can prepare 32 beef and chicken patties.

Takoyaki
Next, we bought six takoyaki with mixed favours. Somehow, I feel this takoyaki does not worth buying at all.

Thai Milk Tea
It is not as sweet as the normal Thai milk tea we usually can get from the Thai restaurants or those stalls in Bangkok, Thailand. It is slightly diluted and I find it just nice because I do not take much sugary food.

That night, our topics of gossip included stories about our normal day to day lives, work and people. Interestingly, I shared about someone I liked again (I used to like). Since, I was quite busy with another project and my previous group of teammates have not been making their stories about the client and me, things seemed back to normal. Moreover, the family trip with my friends to Tasmania and Melbourne in September gave me a strong influence that I need to find someone into my life. I am grateful the illusions and feelings which confused me back in August to October has gone. Although, I have been opened up to look a guy, a life partner after joining a seminar organized by the New Creation Church for Singles, I think it is something I can slowly work it out.

Old Town White Coffee – Signature

Old Town White Coffee – Signature, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Address: T.014A, Third Floor, Mid Valley Megamall, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Another throwback entry of January’s event. A day before the Chinese New Year, I went to the Mid Valley Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur with my cousins and my uncle in the late afternoon to settle their issues at Digi centre which is located at The Gardens Mall.

Initially, they wanted to try the food court which is located at Mid Valley’s level three, Food Junction. Unfortunately, the food court is closed that day.

Instead of keep searching for the next restaurant for late lunch, we crossed to the opposite side and settled down at Old Town White Coffee. It was half-crowded when we entered the restaurant and the waiters served us immediately after the tables were arranged for us. We sat outside of the restaurant, just two steps from their entrance.

It took us a while to decide and place our order. Some of us ordered the noodles, the steamed rice and the signature nasi lemak and drinks. They served the noodles first, followed by the cold drinks and then hot drink and next, the nasi lemak and lastly, the steamed rice.

I ordered the dry egg noodle with barbeque chicken. It does not come with a small bowl of soup. It seems different than the normal Old Town outlets or this set meal does not come with soup.

The noodle texture is disappointing because it is soggy and less taste. The chicken meat are generous and so does the vegetables. It is just a bit hard to eat such a big stalk of vegetable 🙂

I completed my meal with a glass of warm soya milk and I felt filling. I would recommend to go to normal Old Town White Coffee restaurant instead of the Signature brand which makes no difference except the prices and bigger plates and bowls!

Seng Kee

Address: Seng Kee The Black Seed By Chef Benny, Bugis Junction #01-71/72, 200 Victoria Street Singapore 188021.

As per Google, it is the Eighteen Chefs’ concept to start an Halal kopitiam in Bugis Junction and target the youngsters for Singapore local delights at the affordable price range. I visited the cafe twice with my friends and I have tried 2 different food and drinks from the menu.

This is the Nasi Lemak with Chicken Wing set which comes with a cup of tea with pandan leave. The nasi lemak is just like those normal nasi lemak that we can buy at the kiosk nearby MRT or kopitiam. The tea with pandan leave surely just a gimmick. It gives some pandan smell when you sip the tea while it is still hot. It does not add additional favour to the drink itself.

If you like Chee Cheung Fun, here you can get it with generous portion and comes with prawn sambal. Mixing it with the sesame, sauce and fried spring onions, make it tastes good and delicious even it does not come with other ingredients such as fish cake and etc.

What is the great thing to warm up myself? Of course a cup of hot tea.

Secret Recipe

Address: G19, Taman Maluri Shopping Centre, Jalan Jejaka, Taman Maluri, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Ambiance: The restaurant is quiet, not crowded. There is limited number of seats in the branch. The service is fast and the waiters are responsive.

The Fish and Chips with salads. It is one of their set lunch dishes. Food presentation is nice, the food taste is just right, the fish is fresh and the crumbs are crispy. It goes well with the tartar sauce. If you wish, you can have some chili sauce or ketchup for the fries.

The hot and cold lemon tea for two persons. And lastly the take away Walnut Brownie for evening tea.

La Marelle

Address: 25A Baghdad Street, Singapore 199664.
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lamarellecafe/

Since after I resigned from my previous company, I did not manage to write any food reviews. One reason was I quite busy with dealing the situation which made me unable to concentrate on writing my food blog.

Taking a break from the hectic working life looks good and the freedom after that is what I am looking forward. Currently, I am actively looking for next job in Singapore. While busy applying for new job opportunity, I still continue writing.

I was back to Singapore for a while, to complete my Great Eastern Women Half Marathon and meet up with some ex-colleagues and friends. One of the friends booked me for a dinner at this colourful cafe located in the city, the La Marelle. I met her up at Tampines and took the MRT together to the location and met up with another friend. It supposed to be 4 girls’ date, unfortunately, another friends of us was sick.

Let us look closer into the food which we ordered.

The Mushroom Aglio E Olio. It is suitable for those who want to go vegetarian for a day. It is quite plain even I choose to non-vegetarian cooking style (means adding lots of garlic). The presentation of the food also needs some improvement. Both of my friends think I ordered fried meehoon.

The Mac and Cheese is overwhelmed with cheese and both of my friends cannot finish the food because the cheese will make their stomach filling. I get to taste a bit from my friend, seriously cheesy! We like the food presentation.

We order two cakes, the gula melaka cake and the cheese cake. Personally, I prefer the gula melaka cake over the cheese cake simply because of the unique taste from the gula melaka cake which make me feeling I should eat more!

And yes, we finished all the cakes, clean~~~

While enjoying the cakes, we looked around the cafe and found they are selling stuffs too, in which I bought some of the pocket sized notebooks. The interior of the cafe heavily painted with vivid colors and decorated with some beautiful decorations. When you visit this cafe, remember to look up the pinkish staircase to the second level of the shop. I do a little search online, someone mentioned the specialty of this cafe is the Iced Espresso. We did not order drink for that night, maybe, next time when I visit the cafe again, I will check out their drink menu again.
