Hutong Lot 10

Hutong, Lot 10 Shopping Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Hutong is an high class, air-conditioned and well-maintained food court in the KL city. It is located at the Lot 10 Shopping Center, it is just next to the Iseten Japanese supermarket. It is decorated with old decoration and display items and it is using all the old style’s tables and chairs. They are the famous stalls which you can find it around KL city. well-known eatery. Even I mentioned “high class”, the price of the food here is inexpensive when compared the price with other food court in the city.

My aunt wanted to eat the Penang fried kway teow with egg and the minced meat noodle from the Soong Kee Noodle for lunch, therefore, we went out to the city with the MRT, a little bit adventurous with her on the Saturday’s afternoon.

The stall which sells this Penang delicacy located opposite to the Bak Kut Teh stall. You cannot miss this stall when you are coming down from the side escalator as you can see some delicious pictures of the fried kway teow on the wall. If you wish to try the fried noodle with duck egg, they do offer it with additional cost. The fragrant from the fried noodle and the chili’s spiciness give a good kick. If you do not wish to eat spicy, you can tell them no chili.

Although I am not sure they are originated from which famous stall in Penang city, the cook does a good job. I guess the cook who prepared my plate of fried noodle is not a local, however, he has a good skill and with the fresh ingredients like cockles, middle sized prawns and bean sprout and the “wok hei” (heat from the wok), the fried kway teow still as good as those in Penang.

Next, we tried the minced meat and beef balls noodle from the Soong Kee noodle. You can find the original Soong Kee noodle stall in Petaling Street, the Chinatown in the KL city. I quite like their noodle cooks al-dente and it is not oily after mixed with the minced meat. More importantly, they add vegetable into the bowl of noodle which is rarely found. The taste is well-maintained, not overly done and it is not salty. The beef balls are handmade, springy and firm.

Again, I guess the workers are not local but they are trained and monitored by their local masters who eventually helped out to prepare my bowl of noodle with extra minced meat. My set of noodle comes with a bowl of four beef balls, a plate of vegetable and a cup of hot Chinese tea.

Caffe Bene

Caffe Bene, Sunway Velocity, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A girl friend of mine reminded me to look for another friend to get the facial cream she bought from China. I asked my friend before this on how to manage the scars and pimples on my face.

She told me this worked pretty well on her face and she bought a new one during the one for one promotion. So nice of her! And, I am going to try it pretty soon.

Alright, back to my blogs’ updates.

As you can see the background of the picture above, yes, I took the picture while writing this post. My visit to Caffe Bene in Malaysia is countable, however, I think this maybe my first or second time. I looked at the menu and I could not find some special from the menu to try.

You know, whenever, I do not want to pick a new thing to try, I will always go for Latte. However, my friend ordered Iced Coffee Latte, so I have to order something different than his. I ordered the hot Mocha and he added a sliced of Peanut Buttter cake to share with. The cake is rich but not too sweet, yes, it is still sweet, it goes well with my cup of Mocha. Everything is well balanced, however, I would love to be given more options to reduce the sugar level.

The ambiance of the cafe is pretty good especially we sit at one corner and it gives us a lot of privacy and space to talk.

It has been quite long since we last met and I always wanted to share with him about my stories with my client who liked sometimes ago. I have been sharing it with some girl friends and their feedback almost the same and I wanted to see from the guy’s point of views toward this matter.

Besides sharing our updates with each other, we planned to visit our girl friend in Suzhou this year end. I am planning to go for a long trip after my project is completing.

McDonald’s Mix and Match

McDonald’s in Malaysia is having the mix and match for McBreakfast selection. I went to the McDonald’s located at Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with my aunt last week, when I went back to KL for a short break.

The mix and match selection allows us to buy two items with a fixed price which I think it is quite worth especially we do not want to eat the hash-browns. We ordered the two sets of the Sausage McMuffin with Egg with coffee. Instead of the usual McDonald’s paper cup, this visit they used the McCafe’s paper cup.

Although there is some changes, the food quality remains the same and I love the coffee’s smell. I love spending the quality time together with my aunt especially I shared with her my work and my daily life in Singapore. She loves to hear all this stories from me.

Hong Kong Kim Gary Restaurant

Hong Kong Kim Gary Restaurant, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Address: LG – 69 & 70, Lower Ground Floor, Berjaya Times Square, No. 1, Jalan Imbi, Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It has been a while since the last time I visited Kim Gary in Mid Valley’s branch. I cannot even remember there is a branch in Berjaya Times Square until my friend said she wanted to have dinner here. I am glad to see the restaurant still offers various set meals which can easily take you a while to choose what you want to eat and how much you want to eat.

It did take me a while to look through the menu to decide what I wanted to order for the night and lastly, I chose to have a bowl of noodle, an half of the toast with chicken wing set which included a glass of drink. It seemed a lot, right? I was thinking the noodle would not make me feeling full and the additional of toast and chicken wing made the dinner more completed.

It was really sinful to have the toast at night but it has been quite long I did not have toast in Kuala Lumpur. It was nothing special about this toast and chicken wing, it tasted normal and slightly oily as usual for the toast. Besides that, I think they do not use butter, they gave me margarine instead. It did not taste good. No comment about the chicken wing, just a normal chicken wing.

Instant noodle with a piece of luncheon meat and a fried egg on top of noodle is the basic for a Hong Kong style instant noodle meal. Sometimes, you can find some vegetable and sometimes, you do not. It is normal instant noodle with MSG soup based and it is nothing interesting about it. I am not sure which instant noodle’s brand they are using. The noodle texture is spring, did not overly cook the egg and luncheon meat.

What interested me the most of that dinner was a glass of cold ying yong. It is a combination of the coffee and tea, one of the favourite drink in Hong Kong too. The ratio of the coffee and tea is important to get the right taste of the ying yong.

It was a night full with unhealthy food selection, the toast and instant noodle. Moreover, having the cold drink after the meal is not going to help the digestion at night but it satisfied my stomach!

Nadeje Cake House

Nadeje Cake House, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Address: SK-09, 2nd Floor, Mid Valley Megamall, Mid Valley City, Lingkaran Syed Putra, 59200 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It was quite disappointed during my visit to the Nadeje Cake House in Kuala Lumpur because the service at Mid Valley was not good. My previous two visits in Malacca were good and their staff were attentive. However, my third visit in Mid Valley did not turn out to be a pleasant. The waiters are foreigners and they are not as attentive as those local ones I met in Malacca.

Mistakenly, I ordered the cold Iced Cafe Latte with cream when I was so cold in the cinema before this. It was nothing great about their drink, maybe it was not their specialty. The background is the original favour crepe cake.

All of our cakes were mistakenly swapped with the table next to us who ordered three cakes as well. We took all the pictures of the caked before we were told they have made the mistakes. The above cake which we thought it was tiramisu but in actually, it was dark chocolate.

All cakes are same price, so to the waiters, it is fine, not a big deal to make such mistake. However, as a diner, my dining experience turns bad and I did not get to enjoy the cake I want to try.

Pig & Wolf

Pig & Wolf, Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Address: 7.01.07 & E7.01.07 Level 7, Pavilion Mall, 168, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It has been a while since my last visit to Pavilion and now, it has a new wing called Pavilion Elite with many branded outlets and restaurants situated at this new wing. Besides that, I came across a another new wing in the old Pavilion, the Level 7 which has plenty of restaurants there.

One of them is the Pig and Wolf. It is a non-Halal restaurant. My apologies to all my Muslim readers.

According to the Pavilion’s website, Pig and Wolf restaurant is a subsidiary of the popular 3 Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf. It is a casual dining restaurant that offers a mixture of Western and Asian cuisines. It offers from pork burgers, pasta to pork ribs.

Together with my friend, we explored this new restaurant. Initially, we wanted to order the set meal which comes with a soft drink and soup of the day. However, after looking at the a la carte dishes, we decided to order separately which we can have what we wanted to try.

During our visit they were doing a ‘Buy 1 Free 1’ promotion for the coffee’s menu which we both felt it was a better offer than having the soft drinks from the set meal. So, my friend picked the Iced Mocha and I chose the Iced Latte. Their coffee is just right and does not need extra sugar syrup.

My friend spotted the luncheon meat fries on the menu and we ordered one basket to share together. It is a simple appetizer which we can do it at home too. The luncheon meat is slightly fried and it tastes nice and crispy.

We ordered the Mighty Porky Burger which is one of the recommended dish on their menu. The presentation of the burger is still alright with some salads on one side and wedges on the another side. I liked the crispy and hot wedges. As for the pork burger, the pork patty is slightly dry.

We ordered the Pork Steak too which was recommended by the waiter. The meat was well marinated and strong garlic smell. The meat is juicier than the pork burger and it has the same side dishes.

Overall, the food portion is good enough, maybe they can improve the taste of the food to be more attractive. The environment in the restaurant is good and quiet, suitable for big group of people as there are plenty of long tables in the restaurant. We spent our afternoon here for lunch and coffee.

Old Town White Coffee – Signature

Old Town White Coffee – Signature, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Address: T.014A, Third Floor, Mid Valley Megamall, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Another throwback entry of January’s event. A day before the Chinese New Year, I went to the Mid Valley Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur with my cousins and my uncle in the late afternoon to settle their issues at Digi centre which is located at The Gardens Mall.

Initially, they wanted to try the food court which is located at Mid Valley’s level three, Food Junction. Unfortunately, the food court is closed that day.

Instead of keep searching for the next restaurant for late lunch, we crossed to the opposite side and settled down at Old Town White Coffee. It was half-crowded when we entered the restaurant and the waiters served us immediately after the tables were arranged for us. We sat outside of the restaurant, just two steps from their entrance.

It took us a while to decide and place our order. Some of us ordered the noodles, the steamed rice and the signature nasi lemak and drinks. They served the noodles first, followed by the cold drinks and then hot drink and next, the nasi lemak and lastly, the steamed rice.

I ordered the dry egg noodle with barbeque chicken. It does not come with a small bowl of soup. It seems different than the normal Old Town outlets or this set meal does not come with soup.

The noodle texture is disappointing because it is soggy and less taste. The chicken meat are generous and so does the vegetables. It is just a bit hard to eat such a big stalk of vegetable 🙂

I completed my meal with a glass of warm soya milk and I felt filling. I would recommend to go to normal Old Town White Coffee restaurant instead of the Signature brand which makes no difference except the prices and bigger plates and bowls!
