Menya Musashi

Menya Musashi, Singapore.

I supposed to attend the community event organized by CodingGirls in last June but I was late, therefore, the 2nd part of the event where there was a data analysis talk has been taken up. I did not find the rest of the talks would interest me, so I skipped the second session. I just stayed for the 1st session whereby many ladies shared their working experiences and journey to be a developer, entrepreneur and a successful lady. After the 1st session ended around 1.00PM, I headed down to Raffles City Shopping Centre to meet up with my cousin and my aunt for late lunch. They like Japanese restaurant, so we decided to go to Menya Musashi after did some rounds at the basement of the shopping for our food.

The set which I chose was heavenly good, worthy and delicious.

I ordered the premium set which included a bowl of the Chashu ramen, karaage chicken, a chawanmushi, salad and a glass of drink.

You can choose type of the ramen, thick, thin or matcha noodle. You can choose the soup based too, original, garlic and spicy. Also, you can choose to have fried gyoza or karaage chicken.

My ramen was using original soup broth, thick ramen and it has 1 piece of the chashu only with some shredded wood-ear, half egg, seaweed and some pickles. If you order the Chashu ramen set, you will get additional 4 pieces of meat without the karaage chicken and chawanmushi. It depends on your preferences.

The drink is refillable and you can choose between hot or cold houji cha, plain water or other drinks with additional costs.

The lunch is filing, sumptuous and worth to try. You may want to avoid fried chicken cutlet if you don’t want to eat oily food.

For the first time I organized the team lunch for my team, thanked to my boss who assigned me to take this role from my colleague who is now my ex-colleague. With a specific amount of budget, we are still able to enjoy a beautiful western lunch with a group of 10 people. It was a farewell lunch too with my ex-colleague which I planned on the last week before last day of service.

While I thought they would try the restaurant’s recommended, famous and popular waffle fried chicken and pancake, it seemed that they are not really keen into these “famous” and “popular” food which most of the food lovers go for. Lucky enough, the restaurant serves more than waffle fried chicken.

I googled the restaurant and someone recommended to try their buttermilk biscuit bread. I tried the Egg Benedict because I want to try their buttermilk biscuits. It is slightly salty for my taste bud. It was filling with two poached eggs on top of the thick chicken ham and buttermilk biscuits.

However, the guys in my team needed more or bigger portion of food. It is American food, the portion seems big to me, hahaha…

Soufflé De Nuage
The fluffy egg soufflé on top of the thin layered of the tomato fried rice with ham and mushroom. It has plenty of thick ham on the right side and I hardly see any mushrooms in the fried rice. It is slightly imbalance.

Overall, it is a delicious, worth to try and very filling because it is slightly creamy too.

Original Soufflé Pancakes
It is a regular plain pancake, very thick, soft and not very fluffy as I expected. The maple syrup and the pancake blend well and the whole piece of pancake is not too sweet.

It has been two months I stopped writing food reviews and it is time to resume and put up some nice photos and some reviews about the food which I have tried so far in the month of June.

Firstly, I would like to share with you a worth-to-try premium set from Menya Musashi. It is a Japanese restaurant located at Raffles City shopping center. The premium set which I ordered is called Cha Shu Ramen.

The Chashu ramen, karaage (fried) chicken, a chawanmushi, salad and a glass of drink.

You can choose type of the ramen, thick, thin or matcha noodle. You can choose the soup based too, original, garlic and spicy. Also, you can choose to have fried gyoza or karaage chicken.

My ramen is using original soup broth, thick ramen and it has 1 chashu only with some shredded wood-ear, half egg, seaweed and some pickles. If you order the Chashu ramen set, you will get additional pieces of meat without the karaage chicken and chawanmushi. It depends on your preferences.

Iciban Sushi

Iciban Sushi, AMK Hub, Singapore.

After the 2XU marathon on the Sunday’s morning, I took a short nap in the afternoon after reached home and showered. I was too eager to join my cousin and my aunt for dinner that night, just before I prepared to depart from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur.

My cousin told me they planned to have dinner at the AMK Hub instead of having the home cooked dinner. I left the house about 2 hours earlier after the laundry and reached AMK Hub at 4.30PM. We stopped by at the FairPrice before dinner.

It took us quite long to get a table although we reached earlier because my aunt was sitting on the wheelchair, so sushi bar is not convenient for her. They use the numbered queuing system and it is more systematic. The waiters and waitresses are polite and approachable. They are mainly Filipino.

I was unable to decide whether I want to try their Udon or getting the rice set. After seeing the menu, I decided to try the new set on the menu, Kaisen Chirashi Don. The word “chirashi” means “scattered”, so this is basically a big bowl of rice mixed with salmon, tuna and snowfish with vegetables. The base is quite plain and I added some chili powder onto it.

The ingredients are fresh, generous amount and filling. The taste is quite plain and that brings out the taste of freshness. On top of that, the set comes with a bowl of hot miso soup. We completed our meals with additional maki.

It was a day with full load of carbo after running for half marathon. I am so happy and satisfied. 🙂

Fat Boys Burger

Fat Boys Burger, Orchard Road, Singapore.

I am going to do a throw back of the events happened during the last March. Just a day before the Sundown Singapore Marathon 2017, I met up with two other friends for a casual dinner after work at the Fat Boys Burger which is located at Orchard Road. It is my first time visiting this branch. The first visit was at Upper Thomson Road.

There was no queue when my friend and I walked from Plaza Singapore to this restaurant which is situation along Orchard Road, right behind the bus stand. However, the restaurant was full house and no tables available for three person. We waited quite a while because we did not want to sit at those high chairs at the bar side.

So much waiting time wasted and we quickly ordered our food once we got our seats not far from the restaurant’s entrance after a couple paid their bill and left the place. The waitress is quite friendly and repeated our orders carefully. It took a while more before they served our food. My friend ordered the Fries with Cheese and shared among us. It is a day full of fries and carbohydrates.

I ordered the Royale with Cheese which comes with a beef patty, soft sesame bun and some fries. I took a top view of the burger and then, I recalled the days before I met a sales person who works for F&B merchant portal. It makes me to take another good shot of the burger in which I decided to make it naked.

I took a close up picture of the beef patty with a piece of cheese. This is how the burger looks like. As for the taste and the sauce combination, I felt satisfied and finished the whole burger without complaints.

Old Chang Kee

Old Chang Kee, Chicken Porridge.

When it comes to the old label, Old Chang Kee, many of us surely tried all their fried food especially their curry puff. I like their curry puff too, occasionally we will order it for party or any other occasions. Also, I love the Old Change Kee, chicken porridge with the yau tiao. It is a breakfast set and always sold-out early.

The porridge is well tasted but I feel it would be better if they can adjust the amount of the white pepper in the porridge or put it as an option for people to add it if they want to at the counter.

The hot porridge mixes well with sesame oils and white pepper and eat it with the yau tiao, a Chinese fried dough, as you can see the long fried stick on top of my porridge. Dip the yau tiao into the porridge and it will become soften, easy and delicious when you bite it. It is a filling porridge or breakfast meal which it worthy to buy for breakfast and you can have late lunch.
