Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe

Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe

After a walk at Botanical Garden on the Saturday’s morning, we headed to Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe which is located at Plaza Singapore, Orchard Road. It is a Hong Kong style restaurant and it has quite a lot of branches in Singapore.

Since it was an early dinner, I decided to try the famous Hong Kong style’s Yin Yong (mixed coffee with tea). Uniquely, this yin yong serves in the stainless steel mug. I could not recall if Hong Kong serves Yin Yong in the same way.
Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe

Each time visiting Hong Kong style restaurant, I will order the wanton noodle to try. It is something like testing the chef’s skill. The wanton noodle was ordinary only. I did not take a nice picture of the wanton noodle that I ate. I tried to search online to get the similar picture and it is so hard to get one. Maybe, it is not their signature dish.

My cousin ordered the Chicken Chop. I was a little bit shocked to see the chicken chop was so small piece. Even, the chicken chop that she ate at food court is bigger than this! I took the fries and it was a bit hard (not crunchy type), looked like over-fried.

We also ordered Fried Wanton. It is lucky to have ordered this as the chicken chop portion is quite small. This fried wanton was pretty okay. It was crispy and went well with the sauce. It saved our dinner 🙂

Maybe, next time we need to choose our food wisely.

Location: #06-08/10, Plaza Singapura, 68 Orchard Road, Singapore.
Ambience: Nice, quiet and spacious.
Rating: 2/5. Unique presentation for the drink and the food is just on it average standard.

U-Village Restaurant

A short catch up with friend at Sungai Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur, brought me to this Hongki (Hong Kong) restaurant, which is located outside of Sungai Wang Plaza, facing the Lowyat Plaza’s parking entrance.

Longing for the Hong Kong style’s wanton noodle, I ordered a bowl of prawn wanton noodle. I waited quite long for my noodle to be served. I think the waiter has misplaced my order. After few checking, yea… my wanton noodle was served.

It is a bowl of disappointed-wanton noodle. The noodle was over-cooked. It was too soggy, so next time, I must tell the cook, please do not cook it so long. They gave three pieces of big wantons but not as big as the ones I had in Hong Kong. The soup based was a little salty and oily too.

My friend ordered the claypot loh su fun and it turned out to be not a claypot!

The cheapest and most worthy drink to be ordered is the Yin Yong (Coffee mixed with tea). It is worth because it is refillable but it is a little too sweet for me.

Kim Gary

I think it is about two years I did not eat Kim Gary. My last experience with Kim Gary was unpleasant and that was why I stopped eating at Kim Gary for so long. Until today, Kim Gary is still having long queue outside their outlets. I really have no idea why and want to know why? It is because it is non-Halal?

Superbowl Rice
This superbowl rice maybe a favourite among guys because it has quite a lot of ingredients inside this bowl of rice. As you can see here, a chicken wing on the left, a half piece of a small sliced chinese ham (ng chan yuk) on the right, a half sausage, an egg on top of the rice with some sweetcorns.

It definitely looks yummy and filling, right? I guess so… 🙂

The same Superbowl Rice – this is the curry fish fillet with scramble eggs. The curry does smell very nice even I didn’t eat it. I’m not sure if this curry is spicy or not.

Yishun Noodle with minced meat and vegetable wanton. This wanton has more vegetable (kau choi) than meat. As for the favour of the noodle, you can choose what favour you prefer from the menu. This is the roasted chicken favour.

This is another Yishun Noodle with pork chop and egg. I quite like this combination because of the pork chop is quite big piece and it is quite nice to eat too! The noodle’s favour is still the same favour, roasted chicken.

Notice that they also give some ABC for this noodle.

Black Pepper Pork Chop with Spaghetti
It comes with a cup of soup of your choice, either the cream soup or borsh soup. I know I should say, it comes with a bowl of soup 🙂

Baked Rice

Vegetable Wanton Noodle

Drinks – Honey Lemon. One of my favorite drink.

Yin Yong (Coffee and Tea) in HK Style. You can go for either hot or cold. One of the most common drink I guess.

If you are at Mid Valley, this restaurant is quite easy to locate. It is located next to the CIMB Bank.

Lot G(E)005, Ground Floor, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Sek Hou

If you are at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur and you are looking for a Chinese restaurant where you have plenty of choics to choose, I recommend you to visit Sek Ho. It is a Chinese restaurant located at Level 3, next to the GSC cinema. It has ala carte and set meals offers. So, do take some time to choose which food you wish to try or eat because it does offer big ranges of different delicacies.

The ambience of the restaurant is not really great because it is facing the exit of the GSC cinema. It is quite a lot of people walking by this restaurant. As for the service, so far, it is just so-so. It is a typical Chinese restaurant that you can find it everywhere.

Pork Chop Udon
sekho2Thumbs up
I must recommend this noodle for those first timer and those who cannot decide what to eat. It gave 2 big pieces of pork chop. Good to try if it is still available in the menu. I tried it once few years ago. It would be better if they can cut the big pieces of pork chop into smaller pieaces so that we can eat is easily. Notice that the white noodle is quite thick? Yes, it is using Japanese udon noodle. So, it is very fillings 🙂

Sang Mee
Fried wanton noodle with some prawns and vegetables. It is commonly found at any outside hawker stall. Nothing much special about this fried noodle.

Seafood Fried Noodle

La Mian with wanton.
It comes with a bowl of soup if order the dry La Mian. The 4 wanton are quite big compared to the normal wanton noodle sells at the hawker stalls. It did not use the thick dark soya sauce. Overall, it does not look oily and the taste is just nice. Nothing special to mention.

Seafood Noodle in Tomato Sauce
It gives quite a lot of noodle and tomato sauce but the ingredients are quite little as per what you can see below.

Hutong Seafood La Mien in Claypot
Another recommendation for La Mien. It is quite filling with generous amount of noodle. Thick gravy with scrumptious seafood which includes squids, prawns, crab sticks and fish fillets.
Thumbs up

Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage

Common Chinese fried rice and this one uses the Chinese dried sausage (lap cheong).

Fish with oat
It is a quite special dish in which the fried fish fillets is covered with oats. It is quite healthy food and not oily.

Prince Cafe

Prince Cafe at Mid valley is located opposite of the Boulevard Hotel. It is another Hong Kong style restaurant in Mid Valley and its style is similarly to the Kim Gary which also in Mid Valley. However, it has been closed down for few years.

Most of its offers are set meals and their set comes with a drink and the main dish. They offer various types of food ranging from Chinese to Western food. The price is reasonable for the portion of food that they offer.

I pretty like their ice drinks either the “yin yong” (Mixed coffee and tea) or “lai cha” (tea) because their ice cubes are made of the drink itself.

Yang Chow Fried Rice
I tried their Yang Chow Fried Rice set and chose Green Tea as the drink.
